Hej (=Hi)!
It's Alba Corman. As some of you will know, a week ago I came to Skövde (Sweden) for starting my Master's Degree in Molecular Biotechnology. So, I've decided to start with this blog in order to inform you about my adventures here in Sweden and also to provide some practical information for those who are thinking of coming to this great country!
THE ARRIVAL
It's very easy to come to Skövde. You could come from Göterborg (which I recommend) or from Stockholm. From there you would be able to take a train. It lasts about an hour from Göterborg and two hours from Stockholm. You should book your tickets from this webpage www.sj.se .
If you're coming to the University of Skövde (http://www.his.se/en/), I recommend you to take the pick up service. Some students from the IC-International Committee (https://www.facebook.com/SkovdeIC) will pick you up and give you some useful information, or even walk home with you.
THE ACCOMMODATION AREAS
The main accommodation areas are: Norra Trängallén (where I'm staying ^-^), Xenia and Perenius. If you are going to stay at the city for some months and you like having party everyday, Xenia it's your best option. If you prefer living in a calm environment, you should apply for Norra. I've been here for a week, so I don't have much info about Perenius.
THE HÖGSKOLAN (=college)
The university prepares a week of introduction activities for the new students. They provide information about the college's life, the organisms inside the uni and also, the IC prepares games in order you get in touch with other students, and that's great!
When you come, I swear you'd be wellcomed! By the University, other students and even the Major! :)
I haven't started with my subjects yet, but the Högskolan offers courses of Swedish, Swedish culture and society and English classes too. You should try them! I've already started the Swedish culture and society one.
After this brief intro of practical information about Skövde I'll post how has been this first week here. In advance, it has been great, I have enjoyed it a lot and I feel like at home!
See you! ^-^
